Hace poco Google removió de su tienda 17 aplicaciones por contener en su código un malware llamado Joker, uno de los más persistentes de acuerdo con la empresa. Las apps fueron subidas hace menos de un mes a la Play Store y tuvieron más de 120.000 descargas.
El malware que contienen estas aplicaciones permite robar información del dispositivo como mensajes de texto y listas de contactos; además, el programa espía puede registrar “silenciosamente” a la víctima para servicios premium de protocolo de aplicaciones inalámbricas (WAP, por sus siglas en inglés), explicó Zscaler, firma de seguridad que encontró las fallas en las aplicaciones.
Después de hacerse pública la denuncia, Google eliminó las aplicaciones de su tienda y con Play Protect desactivo las aplicaciones en los dispositivos en las que estaban instaldas, explica el portal ZDNet. Sin embargo, es importante que los usuarios hagan la desinstalación de manera manual en sus celulares.

The malware contained in these applications can steal information from the device such as text messages and contact lists; in addition, the spyware can "silently" register the victim for premium wireless application protocol (WAP) services, explained Zscaler, the security firm that found the flaws in the applications.
After the complaint was made public, Google removed the applications from its store and with Play Protect deactivated the applications on the devices on which they were installed, explained the ZDNet portal.
