Gundam, ‘el gigante’, es un robot que mide aproximadamente 18 metros de alto, pesa cerca de 25 toneladas y está inspirado en ‘RX-78-2 Gundam’, un personaje de la serie anime ‘Mobile suit gundam’, la cual fue estrenada en Japón en 1979.
El robot, ‘oriundo’ de Japón, está hecho de acero y una resina de carbono. A diferencia del personaje de la serie, que era controlado por un piloto humano dentro del robot, Gundam es manejado con control remoto.
Este gigante hará parte de Gundam Factory Yokohama, una atracción turística que, además de ofrecer la exhibición del robot, contará con restaurantes y tiendas.
El 29 de noviembre, Gundam superó una de las pruebas de movilidad, la cual quedó registrada en video.
En las imágenes se observaba al robot delante de una plataforma que superaba su tamaño. Las ‘puertas’ de la estructura se movían para permitir que Gundam pudiera avanzar.
Luego de algunos segundos, y a una velocidad muy lenta, el gigante mecánico levantó una de sus piernas, flexionó su rodilla y dio ‘su primer paso.
Vale resaltar que el robot también puede mover la cabeza, los brazos y tiene la capacidad de hacer otras maniobras como arrodillarse o apuntar al cielo.En el canal de YouTube de Gundam Factory Yokohama se ha documentado todo el proceso de ensamblaje y creación del robot.En uno de los videos, Jun Narita, jefe de diseño aseguró que uno de los retos más grandes fue equilibrar el peso de los materiales y los motores, pues debía cumplir con un límite de peso para cada parte.Por ejemplo, las manos de Gundam no podían sobrepasar los 200 kilogramos.
